Meet Phil

A new addition to the Brown & Brown studio has been our Architectural Technologist, Phil Booth, who has had the unique challenge of joining us during this tumultuous year of lockdowns and remote working.

We're really pleased to have Phil as part of the team, and his skill and experience are already proving to be invaluable to our capacity and the overall quality of our work.

We grabbed five minutes with Phil to say hello:

How did you end up here?

I studied in Manchester and worked for several years at various architectural practices in Lancashire, engaged in housing and commercial projects, and also in the healthcare sector, before moving up to Aberdeenshire in 1993.

I worked with my last practice in Aberdeen for 25 years, applied for this position at Brown & Brown earlier in 2020 – and here I am!

What does an Architectural Technologist do?

An Architectural Technologist is involved in all aspects of a project.

Advising on materials and construction, taking a project from survey stage through to design and producing working drawings, collaborating closely with the Architect, clients, contractors and other building consultants.

Any architectural heroes?

I don’t have any architectural heroes as such.

I appreciate good architectural detailing, whether it be an old gothic cathedral, a piece of modern architecture or a nicely designed piece of furniture.

My dad was a cabinet maker — a true craftsman — so I think that’s where my love of detailing comes from.

Quiet studio or noisy studio?

I enjoy the buzz of a creative office and generally like music in the background.

Favourite thing about your job?

I love most aspects of my job — from surveying an old steading, to construction and joinery detailing, and site inspections.

It’s always great to see a project come together on site.

What do you like doing when you're not at work?

I enjoy photography, walking, cycling and DIY.

Describe Brown & Brown in three words.

Attention to Detail.
